I am originally from Portland, Maine, from a family of physicians, rabbis and musicians.  I received my BA in Religious Studies at Brown University where I began my work as a counselor at Brown University Medical School’s adult psychiatric hospital.  After university, I worked for years providing counseling and health education for the San Francisco Department of Public Health in community health clinics.  I studied psychology and social work at Smith College School for Social Work and received my clinical training at Mass General Hospital at Harvard Medical School in Boston and at the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services in New York.  After graduating with my Masters in Clinical Social Work, I worked for several years at St. Mary’s Medical Center/McAuley Institute in San Francisco providing family and adolescent therapy in the adolescent psychiatric hospital and day treatment programs.  I started my psychotherapy private practice in 1997.  Concurrent with my private practice in the 2000’s, I was a staff psychotherapist and clinical faculty at UCSF’s Alliance Health Project, a program for LGBTQ individuals at Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute.

I have served as an Associate Clinical Professor at Smith College School for Social Work, as well as Adjunct Faculty at the McAuley Institute of St. Mary’s Medical Center and West Coast Children’s Center.  I’ve taught the practice of psychotherapy with individuals and families.

Over the years, I’ve pursued advanced training by completing an Advanced Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training Program at the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California.  I also completed a two-year certification as an Advanced Practitioner of Craniosacral Therapy.
